Any non-fiction film of South African origin with a running time of 45 minutes or more, not including entirely scripted or improvised fictionalizations of actual events.
If your documentary contains some dramatization of actual events, you may submit to this category, but we will ultimately decide which program is best suited for your project, if accepted.
South African Documentary Feature Films that have previously screened at any festival in South Africa are not eligible for submission to CTIFMF for Festival consideration.
South African Documentary Feature Films that have been or will be exhibited publicly at one or more non-festival screenings, broadcast or streamed on television or the Internet, or released via any home video or other public distribution platform (Blu-ray, DVD, streaming, VOD, etc.) before October 12th, 2017 are not eligible for any of the CTIFMF programs.

Submission Regulations
1. Eligibility
1.1 Submissions may be fiction, documentary, animation or experimental of any length. Only films completed no more than 18 months prior to the Call for Entries of the Cape Town International Film Market & Festival will be considered for competition purposes. Films completed before this time will be screened but not considered for the competition section.

1.2 Preference will be given but is not limited to submissions that have not been distributed theatrically or screened at other festivals in South Africa prior to the 2017 Festival.

1.3 South African Entries entered for the South African Awards Section will not have screened at any other festival in South Africa prior to the 2017 edition of the CTIFMF.
